Mountain and Trials unicycling
In off-road conditions with the world's best-known unicyclist, Kris Holm.
Kris Holm is a 42-years old mountain and trials unicycling pioneer from Vancouver, British Columbia. Beyond the sport itself, unicycling is a way of changing his perspective. “If I’m walking even down the street, and I see a bench or a rail, it’s a ridable line possible. It totally changes the way you might look at the urban landscape.”
In the latest film entitled Focal Point directed by Björn Fischer, the Canadian unicyclist explores beautiful trails close to his home. He says: “Unicycles are almost a metaphor for balance. You see your hands stretched out but, really, it’s coming from your core, knowing how to position your body. It’s beyond that. It’s also a mental balance where you must focus. You balance with your mind and you balance with your body.” No room for distraction. If you make a mistake, you’re down. “It’s not about taking risks. One thing about unicycling is that you do fall a lot! If you’re not falling, you’re probably not trying.”
Playing a key role in the innovation of modern unicycling, Kris Holm founded his same named brand, not only becoming a reference in the unicycling world but also the first cycling brand to join “One percent for the Planet “. Alongside 1200 other member companies in 48 countries, Kris Holm Unicycles is committed to creating a healthy planet. As an ambassador of the foundation, he donates at least 1% of annual sales to sustainability initiatives.
As the world’s best-known unicyclist, you’ll find Kris riding a unicycle in off-road conditions, from mountains in North and South America, across remote regions in Bhutan and Mongolia, to the Great Wall of China. And this is not about to stop. “I hope I’ll be riding when I’m 70.”
