A Pastel Universe
Matthieu Venot's rendition of modern architecture in ice-cream colors
Urban architecture photography is a popular area at the moment, but few artists can bring as much finesse to the subject as Matthieu Venot. The self-taught photographer has created a series of projects that isolate elements such as roofs, tiles, staircases or balconies in order to reveal the beauty of details hidden in mundane modern architecture. He focuses on geometric shapes and patterns in pastel palettes and every single shade of blue. Venot uses unusual angles, extreme close ups and unique framing techniques to translate the man-made world around us into images that expose the aesthetic value of urban environments through boldly defined lines and saturated colours. The artists only shoots during perfect weather turning clear blue skies into clean, flat backgrounds and providing his images with powerful, vibrant colour palettes, enhanced by the brightness of the sun.
